The aim of CIFAR’s Future Flourishing program is to raise and attempt to answer the question: “What does it mean to live (well) without human exceptionalism?” This program welcomes applications by future Global Scholars who are interested in 1) examining a new definition of the human and what it means to live well. We are particularly interested in applicants who will draw from philosophical and historical work on the ideas of human exceptionalism and who will bring the contributions of various traditions of thought; 2) developing inquiries into the effects and legacies of human exceptionalism in science, art and culture, as well as curating innovative forms of academic/artistic/scientific work for future flourishing; 3) collaborating, producing and curating knowledge with contemporary media and cultural institutions in order to explore new fictions of the human and alternative scenarios leading to a flourishing future.
